Gabriel Meredith is a historian-turned-video game designer. After his studies in Art History at the University of Michigan and his master’s in Archaeology at the University of London’s School of Oriental & African Studies, Gabriel moved back to his hometown Shanghai to found Merfolk Games, a studio specializing in historical, cultural, and educational games.
Gabriel has a range of museum work under his belt, from curating Asian art at The Walters Art Museum to giving a lecture on ceramics at the British Museum. At the same time, his love for video game design from an early age (especially history games like Civilization and Age of Empires) has brought the team where it is today.
Merfolk Games launched Temple of the Cat God in collaboration with the Shanghai Museum in 2024, and has since then created two other games for museums alongside its own portfolio of games.
With Gabriel’s leadership, Merfolk Games continues to strive to make a difference, and share his love for history and culture with the world.
